By decision of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia to establish a network of national institutions in the field of culture (Official Gazette of RM No. 84/2003), the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum-Ohrid and related institutions in Bitola, Prilep, Strumica and Shtip received the status of National Institutions of culture and was renamed NI Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum- Ohrid, i.e. NI Institute and Museum-Ohrid.
Today, NI Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum-Ohrid is a national institution in the field of culture whose core activity is the protection, systematization, documentation, scientific study, publication and presentation of the cultural heritage of the city of Ohrid and Ohrid-Struga region.
The Institution realizes its activity, program, goals and objectives through the three sectors according to the Regulation for systematization of jobs that establishes the organizational units and jobs, as follows:

I. SECTOR FOR PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION OF IMMOVABLE CULTURAL HERITAGE
Within this sector operate three sections as follows:
1. Section for identification and protection regime with four departments:
- Department for protection of the archaeological heritage;
- Department for legal protection of cultural heritage;
- Department for protection of ethnological heritage;
- Department for protection of historical heritage.
2. Section for direct protection with three department:
- Department for protection of architectural heritage;
- Department for art techniques;
- Construction operations.

Within this sector operate five departments as follows:
1. Archaeological Department
2. Ethnological department
3. Department of History
4. Department of Art History

III. SECTOR FOR ADMINISTRATIVE, GENERAL AND LEGAL AFFAIRS
Within this sector operate three department as follows:
1. Department of legal, administrative and technical matters
2. Department of Human Resources
3. Department of Financial an Accounting works
